The last 8 days before GIR FY2024: what can still be fixed, and what can't
The deadline for the first GloBE Information Return for FY2024 - 30 June 2026 - is now 8 days away. At this stage the project does not need another risk analysis, it needs decisions: what can still be closed, and what now has to be consciously logged as a limitation so the team can move on.
From the calendar to the final week
If the project schedule was built with a buffer - as described in the GloBE deadline calendar - this week should just be signing off what is already done. In practice something is almost always left for the last moment. The question is not “if”, but “what exactly” and “can it still be fixed in 8 days”.
What can still be saved
- Missing confirmations from local entities - if it’s a matter of one email or call to the data owner, not rebuilding a source, it’s still doable.
- Minor FX and valuation corrections - if the FX policy is set and only the final conversion is missing, that’s not a reason to panic.
- Final validation of the calculation platform output - testing on the full data set rather than a sample, if only a sample was validated earlier.
- Risk and decision log - filling it in now, rather than after filing, costs an hour and protects against questions months later.
What can no longer be fixed
- Structural gaps in source data - if an entity simply has no required financial report, 8 days will not build one from scratch.
- Unresolved Safe Harbour tests - especially where input data quality was already flagged as an issue (more in the post on TCSH pitfalls).
- No formal board sign-off - if the sign-off process was not planned earlier, rushing it in the final week creates more risk than it resolves.
T-8 days checklist
- Does each input data point have one owner and one source of truth?
- Are known gaps documented - with a description of impact, not just the entity name?
- Has the person signing the GIR seen the risk register, not just the final output?
- Is there a plan for something changing in the final 48 hours?
- Has the tax advisor confirmed the interpretations that affect the numbers, not just the narrative?
Takeaway. The final week before the GIR is not for improving data quality - it is for deciding which limitations the filing is made under, and making sure those limitations are documented rather than discovered at the next deadline.
